Who is an amateur artist?

Amateur Artists believe that if they build it, you will come!!!

How do you describe an artist as a professional or as an amateur? That's not necessarily making a judgement about the quality of their art. Just expression of human, sight and discerning mind.

A professional can be described as a person engaged in a specified activity as an ongoing, and main paid occupation ; rather than as a pastime activity.

Therefore, a professional artist is in the business of producing art to make steady liveable income.

Whereas, an amateur may sell work and derive income from his or her art, but that is not the primary motivation. Most amateurs for them art may be a passion, a hobby, a skill acquired, or a recreational pastime, but it does not matter if their work doesn’t sell. They are not in business to make money at all cost.

Many professional popular artists on the beats today, began their careers as amateurs, and there are many amateurs out there who are as skilled as professionals but remain in the corners.

A professional knows that there is more to being an artist then simply creating art.  They understand their social and economic responsibility towards their families, and know how important it is for their art to fetch money.
Professional artists never get too attached to their artwork because they understand its someone else responsibility to turn it into cash, in order to have the opportunity to create another one.

Professional artists understand that they not only need to know how to create their art, but they also have to know how to market and sell their work as well.

They make it a point to find out who their potential customers are, and where they hang out.

They also know that they need to develop a relationship with these potential customers (fans / followers) before they can enjoy revenue reward from them. Most professional artists understand that in the 21st century they will need to create and build their reputation as an artist on all organic and social media to make sustainable dependable income in the real world.

Amateur Artists however, believe that success will happen quickly and over night.

While an amateur artist believes that it will only take a year or two to create their reputation and have their career take off, a professional artists knows that this process will often take much longer than they imagine so they understand the importance of getting started immediately. Developing all the necessary linkages and network, and hang out.

Many keen professional artists recognises thar art is not a hobby or a pastime, it’s a business which is why they insist on treating it like one.

They not only show up everyday and work at their job, but they also know that they will need to work their way up from the bottom just like they would in any other profession.

They are in it for the long-haul and are willing to work on all aspects of their business (creating, networking, marketing, consuming) making remarkable effort a little bit each day by day, because they understand that true success will arrive in years not weeks.

  1. Good concept. This would help bring sanity to communities. Provided the youths collaborate instead of Yahoo.
